On the evening of Wednesday, 2nd April, member Julie held a livestream for her birthday on YouTube – the VOD has now been removed by the company – in which the theme was hip hop, but the members turned up in caricatures of black people. 

Following this incident, the company issued an apology on behalf of the girls, as they continued to post on Instagram like nothing happened.

On Saturday, the 5th of April, members Belle, Julie, Natty and Haneul posted a handwritten apology on their social media pages.

However, they still face criticism from fans as they have not directly addressed the issue. Instead, they opted to call the live stream “content” and their blatant mischaracterisation of black people as “taking the concept too far”.
