Tyla made us lose our breath with her Coachella sets – Week one and Week two in review

Rising South African star, Tyla, took to the Coachella stage to bring some spice to California. Her meteoric rise followed her hit song Water going viral, but she is here to stay.

She started her set with Push 2 Start, entering the stage in a gold bralette, white crop top, shorts and ripped tights. As always, her dancing was immaculate and her vocals were steady. Where other artists choose flames and fireworks, Tyla opted for bubbles to add flair to her stage.

One thing about Coachella, the audience loves a surprise guest and Becky G was no different. She joined Tyla, in a matching white outfit, as they sang On My Body together in front of the giant tiger statue on stage with Tyla.

Tyla is such a versatile artist, Safer was a song I hadn’t heard before but she had such an emotive performance vocally, as her backup dancers gave it their all.

I briefly mentioned it, but during her week one set there was a giant tiger prop, which Tyla vandalised with graffiti as a part of her set. More importantly, during Water. This song was popularised with Tyla’s water dance, in which she pours water over herself, so fans were left a little bit disappointed by the change.

During week two, Tyla went for a green set, with a patterned green bralette and shorts with green tassels as she performed. She was also adorned in necklaces and body chains, which added some sparkle to her as she danced. It was giving Britney Spears.

Her performances still looked as effortless and cool as week one, keeping up with her dancing without even a crack in her vocals, like performing is second nature to her.

There was a sweet moment when she brought a group of fans on stage to dance to Shale Ah with her, letting the talent in her fandom shine on the same stage as her.

For week two she did take Water back to its roots. Performing the song in a paddling pool in front of a screen that showcased South African architecture. Her dancers poured water on her as she did her iconic dance, giving the fans exactly what they felt they were missing from week one in the desert.
