YouTuber turned singer Arthur Hill has recently released a long awaited new single Appetite, and here are our thoughts.
First off, I’ve been waiting to hear this song since Arthur dropped the first preview in March. And yes I know I could’ve listened to the videos that other fans posted from when he played it on tour, but 1) I don’t like spoilers and 2) my Twitter feed has been on NHL lockdown since the playoffs started in April.
Anyway, the song was released at midnight on the 22nd May and I was listening to it the moment it appeared on Spotify.
(Also here’s your reminder that I don’t consider myself a professional music reviewer, I just listen to a lot of music and have far too many opinions).

My thoughts on Appetite:
Arthur looks fit in the album art, taken by James Barber and Jordan Dean Schneider. Great work to all the photographers and stylists involved and his parents for the genetics. But seriously, I love album art that doesn’t have the song title or album name on it, and instead just allows the mood of the song to shine through, and this photo does just that.
Once again the lyrics are amazing and draw you straight into the song. For me lyrics can make or break a song and Arthur crushes it again. The ability to tell a story through songwriting allows you to create an emotional connection to the song, and even with all the aeroplane mentions this song absolutely does that. I love it.
My original notes from my first listen to the song just say “vocals!!!” and I wasn’t wrong.
Just listen to the song and you’ll understand.
The chorus was the part of the song that had been previewed on social media and that was definitely the right choice – it’s catchy as hell. The woah-oh’s add depth and a little sprinkle of something that just makes it even better.
Moving onto the instrumental side of the song. I think the stripped back nature of the song works so well with the emotion of the lyrics. The fade from the verses into the chorus isn’t jarring and the gradual buildup of instruments from the first chorus, through the second verse and into the second chorus is so smooth I didn’t actually notice it happening until my second listen though.
Also, the little synth fade out at the end is very cute and I just had to mention it.
The only negative thing I have to say about the song is that it needs to be longer! It’s only 2:45 which upsets me but hey what can you do (put it on repeat obviously).
Overall, Appetite is an amazing song and Arthur should be so proud! I hope this song gets the hype and recognition it deserves because it’s genuinely one of the best releases this year so far.
It’s just made me even more excited to see Arthur on tour in November and hear the song live!!
